Shennawy was born in Cairo in 1978. He went on to study applied arts and work as a graphic designer in advertising.
In 2011, he established a comic magazine for adults named TokTok and has worked as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer ever since. Shennawy is also one of the founders of the CairoComix Festival, created in 2015, and manager of The Ninth Art publishing house.
His publications include Short (Actes Sud, 2018) and TokTok, L’Egypte dessinée par ses auteurs (9th Art, 2018).
